St. Vincent’s Team Approach to Pain Treatment
Few things are more distressing than the experience of being in pain. Because a wide range of conditions can cause pain, our multidisciplinary team includes specialists in pain medicine, anesthesia, internal medicine, orthopedics, neurology, radiology, psychiatry, physical and occupational therapy, and complementary medicine.
In this collaborative atmosphere, specialists work with you and your primary healthcare provider to diagnose the problem, set individualized goals, and design a customized plan for pain management treatment.
If you have pain from an injury, surgery or medical condition that persists despite appropriate treatment for your underlying disorder, contact one of our clinics.
- Acute Pain: Inadequate pain management after an injury or surgery can lead to a slower recovery, longer hospital stays and even chronic pain. It’s essential to have a pain management plan in place. Our team is experienced in managing pain through both medications and interventional techniques (which block the nerves sending the pain messages to the brain).
- Chronic Pain: Chronic pain is a major related health care problem. Our providers’ clinical experience and diagnostic expertise diagnose your problem and design a customized treatment plan to help you feel better if your chronic pain issues have a mental health or substance abuse component, our pain medicine doctors work closely with specialists in other fields to address any related issues.
Oncology Pain Treatment at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Outpatient Clinic
Pain management has advanced significantly over the years. There is no reason why a cancer patient should have to endure the debilitating effects of cancer pain. By working with your physician and staff at St. Vincent’s to control cancer pain, we can help you concentrate on getting better.
Our compassionate, experienced multi-disciplinary team provides customized pain management assistance to cancer patients. Working together, our pain medicine physicians, psychologist, massage therapist, acupuncturist, and interventional pain specialists work with you to achieve pain relief.
How does this work?
- Each patient undergoes an initial comprehensive pain evaluation by the pain medicine physician and other members of the pain team, based on individual needs and goals.
- You also may be referred directly to the acupuncturist, psychologist, or interventional pain specialist for a specific evaluation.
- Your oncologist or nurse may recommend this service, or you may ask for a referral to the St. Vincent Medical Center Outpatient Pain Program at any time.
- The pain medicine physician can also see you at other oncology outpatient clinics. Physicians include Cristina Tamasdan, MD, Pardeep Sood, MD, Jyothi Philipose, APRN, and Isaac Cohen, MD.
